ANSWER :

1. ( i ) These are the words spoken by the narrator .

( ii ) Here , ‘ him ‘ refers to the sloth bear and ‘ her ‘ refers to the narrator’s wife .

( iii ) The narrator was happy because he recalls an incident of over two years ago . While the narrator was walking through the sugarcane fields in Mysore with his friends , he saw a sloth bear . They shot the animal . When they went to have a closer look at the animal , they saw a baby sloth too . He took the animal as a gift for his wife .

2. ( i ) Here , ‘ he ‘ refers to the bear Bruno .

( ii ) Bruno was very happy on seeing the wife of the narrator . Not feeling happy , Bruno used to reject the food being offered to him at the zoo . When he saw her , Bruno felt happy , as he was able to place her even she was still a few yards away . She came running to him and caressed him through the bars .

3. ( i ) The phrase , ‘ we all ‘ represents the narrator , his wife and his son .

( ii ) They all missed Bruno .

( iii ) They felt relieved since they knew that Bruno growing bigger and bigger in size and it was difficult to keep him at home . Another strong reason was that Bruno had to be kept chained for most of the time because of the tenants ‘ children . That’s why it was better to send him to the zoo and they did that .

ANSWER :

1. The first incident was when Bruno ate Barium Carbonate , which is used to kill rats and mice . He experienced an attack of paralysis and he was unable to stand on his own feet . In a second incident , he drank a gallon of engine oil , but this time it did not have any ill effects on him .

2 . Bruno was loving and playful but mischevious too at the same time . The bear loved the company of the two Alsatian dogs and the children of the tenants as well . Bruno had grown in size manifold .

3. Bruno had grown sad after being separated from the family . He started growing lean as he refused to accept the food offered to him at the zoo . On seeing the condition of Bruno by the narrator’s wife . A special arrangement was made for Bruno and finally , Bruno was there at home , in a special cage .
