Ans . There is a bias against the girl child prevailing in the area around the native place of Santosh . Therefore , the holy man was surprised when her grandmother wished for a girl child .

Ans . Santosh used to love wearing shorts in place of the traditional dress that used to be customary thing in her village . This clearly exhibits her rebellious nature and tell us that she had an independent line of thought since early age .

Ans . At her native place , it was the tradition to send a girl to the local school only because the people did not have the aim of educating the girls , rather it was just enabling them to read and write . The ultimate motive was literacy and not education .

Ans . Santosh left for Delhi for higher Education , when she turned sixteen .

Ans . Santosh declared that she would work on a part time basis to source her school fees . After her declaration , her parents gave in and agreed to pay her school fees . We get to know how determined she was when it was a question of goals , dreams and career .

Ans . Santosh used to see individuals climbing the Aravali slopes during the time she stayed in Jaipur in a hostel . Out of curiosity , she went out searching for those individuals and she discovered that they were mountaineers . When she requested them , they allowed her to join them . This is how she entered into the role of being a mountaineer .

Q. 2. What incidents during the Everest expedition shows Santosh’s concern for her team – mates ?

Ans . During her adventure of climbing the Everest , Santosh always endeavored to save the lives of her fellow climbers . She also used to help them by offering her oxygen cylinder . While the team lost one of the climbers , one was saved just because of Santosh’s intervention .

Q. 3. What shows her concern for the environment ?

Ans . During the return journey back from the Everest , Santosh brought with her around 500 kgs of garbage . Lots of garbage is left behind by the mountaineers who climb Everest every year that proves to be a major environmental and an ecological threat . This act of acting responsibly towards the concern , shows her being dedicated to the cause of the environment .
